Retinal Cameras
Overview
Benefits
Dilating the pupil meant blurred vision for several hours after the photo was taken. Most people needed to take the day off work. With modern cameras vision is back to normal within a minute and the only inconvenience is the flash of the camera. The patient can return to their normal day immediately after the photo has been taken.
Technology
Fundus cameras have evolved to the current state-of-the-art where widefield photography can be done through most undilated pupils.
Screening Sites
Run under the direct control of either a Medical Doctor or an Optometrist, who are independent service providers with an interest in diabetic retinopathy screening and who collectively make up the Screening Network, whom the Retinography Team aim to support.
